Tufts really IS unique. It melds the look, feel, and experience of a liberal arts college with a research university. For example, I have only met one TA in my Tufts experience, and she was leading study sessions, not teaching a class. 90% of the professors I have met here are actually TRYING to be your friend and mentor. One of my professors actually requires that each of his students have at least one full-blown conversation with him outside of class every three weeks. Additionally, I feel like professors here are looking to make you work like you've never worked before, but as a scholar rather than a drone (like some of my friends at larger universities). It is completely possible to be inundated with papers and exams and actually ENJOY the work. That said, I warn that this school is for self-starters. To have a good time here you must vigorously seek out opportunities, both academic and social. Tufts is not a place for the perfunctory type of student that attends university to "go through the motions". |
