The majority of Professors are quite accomplished in their respective fields. As for course load, it is not too heavy but not too light. I have time to go home on the weekends, hang out with friends, go on dates with my boyfriend, and be involved in numerous campus activities while still maintaining a high GPA. However, there I do have some gripes with this college- residence halls, food court, bursar, registrar, and tuition. I was profoundly lucky to get a single in my freshman year. Sure, it cost $800 more a year, but the sanity was well worth it (No crazy roommate). However, the dorms leave a lot to be desired. First off, these buildings are old… really old. Brescia, the dorm I lived in, was nearly 100 years old, it had beat up hard wood floors and plaster of paris walls. The shower stalls in the bathroom really needed to be remodeled because they show a GREAT deal of wear and tear. It is upsetting to spend $8,200 on room and board and not have a DECENT place to shower. Girls often left USED sanitary napkins, tampons, dirty underwear, and globs of hair in the shower and toilet stalls. The rooms have are and OK size for a dorm. I had a fairly new bed, dresser, and desk. The closets are pretty big but like everything else, need a couple coats of paint. In the latter part of the semester cat fights would break out at 3 in the FREAKING morning!!! It was incredibly annoying to be sleeping and then abruptly woken up at 2 or 3am because of profanity being yelled and doors slamming. Fortunately, that won't be happening next year on my floor b/c I'll be on a wing with very quiet, meek, and conservative people- all of which I know very well. Be aware that it is an ALL girl’s college, the school of nursing is coed though- only about 5 guys…literally. Some girls are really dramatic. Most girls there are really polite and approachable. When I first decided to attend the college, I loved the food choices. On the days I visited, they had things like, batter fried shrimp, BBQ spare ribs, kale greens, yummy frosted cakes, ice cream, fresh salad bar, a make to order grill, and deli. Being a silly junior in HS, I really did not think that these menus were carefully PLANNED for days when prospective students would be visiting. After about a month of attending, I was completely disgusted with the food and outrageous prices. I can not tell you how many times a month I became ill from the food at the cafeteria. They serve a lot… A LOT of cheap chicken "bargain meals", fried-greasy-fat laden food from the grill or slimy, rotten, or unclean produce at the salad bar. I also forgot to mention their pathetic vegetarian selection, which was basically pasta, pasta, and more pasta. The deli- or Sandella's tastes really good- but MAN is it expensive, $5 dollars for a flimsy wrap. Now that may not sound bad to you, but you only get $1050 on your food card per semester… Not very much to live on with those prices. A cheese burger, soda, veggies, and dessert set me back $10-$15, which was what I should have been spending on food A DAY, not per meal. Many girls run out of money on their food cards and have to mooch off of their friends for food. I had $400 left on my card because I went home on the weekends or just refused to eat the crap being served. I have no idea why the Bursars office can not keep track of paid accounts or people who are on the monthly payment plan. It probably has to do with the large amount of work study students who operate within that office. Last semester I keep getting letters that I owe them money and they tried to prevent me from registering for the fall- but my bill was paid off months prior to that. It took over a week, many phone calls, faxes, and a visit to the bursar’s office to get it cleared up. This happens ALL the time with other students as well.Registrar… they can't keep track of who's in what class. It is the most frustrating experience and you have to argue with them and show transaction forms all other sorts of paper work. God I hate registering for classes.Tuition at this school is ridiculous. Yeah, the professors are excellent, small classes, and a great deal of individual attention- but to spend $19,000+ for tuition, $7,400-$8,200 for room and board is just insane. Not to mention that they have just decided to raise tuition 6%. If you have to pay full tuition or go into massive amounts of debt to go here- DON'T. I have scholarships, grants, financial aid, and other funding from various sources, which means I only have to pay $2,000 out of pocket for the bill. That is one of up sides of going here. I do not know about other degree programs at the school, but the nursing program is stellar. And if you can get at least 3/4 of your tuition paid by the school or other sources, then it's a steal- you'll get a better education then you would have if you went to an average community college |
