I know that Cornell is usually considered the lowest/bottom IVY, it has the highest acceptance rate, middle of nowhere, freezing, and too big, but those exact complaints could be seen as a positive. Especially, being "too big" our course selection is the most diverse out of all the ivies, coming in at over 4000 different courses to choose from. Every semester, while there are a few courses I need to take, at minimum one or two courses I can choose for an elective, and have sooo many classes that I want to take, that sometimes I wish they'd didn't have that many courses! But, I love looking at my curriculum vitae, and see the broad spectrum of courses I've taken, from English to Philosophy, even Math and Science, and of course my major, Human Development. It may seem like…high school all over again, but I am really a breadth kind of a person, and while I might not enjoy English 1, 2, 3, I would enjoy (and did take) Mystery in the Story (where we got to read mystery stories). It's different from high school in that in pretty much any department, you can find a class that you would be interested in taking, and that is a very serious claim to make, but just look at the thickness of our coursebook, and you'll see what I mean. Many cornellians who later go on to bigger and better things sometimes lament at missing the wide range of choices they were given, and some took advantage of that during their time on the hill, and some regret not. I know for me, looking back, I have so far taken full advantage of it, and am very happy to be here. I'm only halfway done, and I can confidently say that these 4 years at Cornell will be my glory days.
