Great site. I decided to respond to second some of the things that were said previously. I'm giving the university a "positive" review even though some of the things here make me with to give it a "neutral."

This is a wonderful, albeit unknown university. The atmosphere would probably improve if there weren't so many commuters and people from the sticks who were just here to get a piece of paper. I guess many public universities have the same problem.

The problem is that UNR is a very good mid-western university stuck out in the west. I would have expected the history department here to try to model itself after some of the other midrange west coast universities like Oregon or Washington State, but it really seems most like South Dakota or something of that ilk. I came here from Western Washington University for personal reasons, but I was suprised at how varied their history options were compared to here (they offer Mongolian history and language, for goodness sakes). Look at WWU compared to here—one isn't the state's flagship university, while this one is, yet WWU really seems more like a western university that concentrates on western issues.

What this university does do, it does pretty well. I enjoy the history classes here, and I can tell that at least the degree will be taken seriously as I begin to apply to graduate school.
