The scenery is beautiful. In the winter, Crested Butte (the near by ski resort) is the most amazing place on earth. And in the warm months, the hiking and biking is some of the greatest you'll find anywhere. For an outdoors person Western is the place to go. Small classes make for easy access to professors for 1 on 1 help with school work. Class work isn't too demanding, and everyone is very friendly.

Gunnison is a small town however, and although some people might like that, It doesn't provide much to do. The only night life of gunnison is Taco bell which is open until 11. And 1 Coffee shop that is open until 12. everything else in town (including the smallest walmart in the nation) shuts down by 9. The lack of things to do in a college town results in alot of people just smoking pot or getting drunk most of the time. Western's famous nickname "Wasted State" is very fitting. Especially in the winter where unless you're going up to Crested Butte, you do not want to go outside. For a good 3 month period in the winter, there are days that don't get above 0 degrees. And most nights it's at least -25 degrees. The only thing to do is stay home and smoke & Drink.

I've enjoyed the time i've had here and at the same time I haven't. When you actually find something to do, it's a fun place. But most of the time you're just bored, and if you're not into drugs or alcohol, then I wouldn't recommend this school. If you are into that kind of stuff, then this place is heaven.
