OLLU is a small University that may appear less appealing compared to larger, more prestigious Universities in the San Antonio area. However, the faculty at OLLU were always very caring, responsible, and well-versed in their field. The student population was a bit less friendly, mostly I think because a good portion of these students are older, non-traditional, commuting students and there isn't much of a chance to build OLLU bonding among the students. I would have left this University bitter thinking that I hadn't made any friends or lasting relationships if I hadn't decided to get my Ph.D. at a University in a different city in Texas (far, far away from San Antonio). That experience has shown me that the important thing about my undergraduate experience was what I learned from my classes, the relationships I had with my professors, and the professional opportunities that were available at OLLU. OLLU and its faculty/staff gave me the tools that I needed to succeed, the motivation to continue on with my education, and the personal confidence to get what I want when I want it, but I had to work at it—it wasn't just handed to me (just as in any other school).
