I absolutely loved RCC. As someone who bombed in high school, I was scared to try college for years, and when I finally went, I wasn't sure what to expect. However, I did exceptionally well when I went there. I got an associate's in social science and am transferring to a four-year college in the fall. For the first time, I feel like I have a bright future ahead of me; I owe a lot of that to the college itself.

RCC is a commuter school, so obviously a lot of the categories like campus aesthetics and social life don't apply. There are a few extracurricular activities on campus, but most students don't participate since nearly everyone has a full-time job, or kids, or both.

I had a few gripes: the bureaucracy was horrible (HORRIBLE!), for one. I'm talking things like missing diplomas and financial aid not going through because the school didn't send the paperwork on time. If you do attend, I'd strongly advise you to visit the registrar and the financial aid office a couple of times a month, just to make sure they're on point with your information. The second complaint I had was the schoolwide communication - there were a lot of things happening on campus and around the neighborhood that we didn't find out about until days after the fact. The school seemed to think that the best way to distribute information was to post a flyer in a random bathroom or something. That was a little disappointing.

So what made RCC such a good experience for me? The professors! They were wonderful, and I can say with honesty that every single one was 100% committed to seeing their students succeed. I had a few professors that I now consider actual friends, since we worked together so much and spent so much time together. There's a lot of handholding at RCC, and it was exactly what I needed at the time. Though I came out of high school lacking some of the skills I needed to be successful, I now feel like I have what I need to prosper in life. Right on, RCC!
