This model for the film "Art School Confidential" was useful in preparing students to work in the food service industry. There were a few incredible faculty members that were instrumental in giving this institution credibility. However those great instructors were not sufficient to compensate for environmental factors such as poorly designed curriculums, lack of sufficient business preparation, and a general inability to prepare students for "real world" life. ACA was a microcosm that was far too insulated from the rest of the world. More than half of all alumni are no longer working artists. Those with degrees in painting and sculpture seem to be fairing better in the long term. Many of these graduates are still exhibiting work on a regular basis. With the demise of the school in 2006, the City of Atlanta did lose a valuable fine art resource. But the current and potential students will receive a far better education at the Savannah College of Art and Design. |
