We have a big Criminal Justice Program that's dynamic and one of the key attractions to our University. We also have some beneficial international programs that are well encouraged. The whole international mission thing can get a little irritating when campus life is so dead. A big cause of this is our very high number of commuting students. This cause is an excuse you will hear alot if you are here. There is little to no social life, or student involvement, most of the students that are involved just want it for their resume, or to promote strong christian conservative values/events, which have small turnouts. Our students that get involved are highly decentralized in their efforts, there is not much school spirit, but we do have a thriving athletics department with really nice facilities. The administration doesn't have much preconception about social life either, but things seem to be improving.Joplin is a growing city, our night life isn't fantastic, but it's getting better. The people are mostly nice. Traffic isn't horrible. Cost of living isn't bad here either. It is the 4th biggest metro in the state, and is less than an hour and a half from both Tulsa, OK and Springfield, MO. Two hours from Kansas City and Two hours from Rogers, AR. It's not a bad hub.One thing we have going for us is that the University is very cost-friendly. |
