Honestly, the school is what you make of it. If you come with an attitude of opportunities being handed to you, think again. It's easy to get caught up with the lackluster general student body, or the lethargic attitude, but you would be really surprised at what you can pull away with. I don't think I worked all that hard at my major (Economics/Law & Society) but I graduated with honors, participated in prestigious internships, and am about to start law school. The best thing about UCR is that it is pretty easy to distinguish yourself because no one else really puts forth any effort. The bad thing is that it can get quite easy to get caught up with that kind of attitude. Socialscene-wise, yeah it gets pretty dead on weekends. I ended up joining a frat which made UCR A LOT more enjoyable. And yes, I partied quite a bit, and I still ended up with honors, so it's not like you have to sacrifice all that much at UCR. Overall, a great school as long as you have your head on straight, but easy to get sidetracked. |
