Allen University during the 50s and 60's was known for it's music graduates and their teaching and performance skills. My 1st husband, James Bright and I were quite successful in our teaching and performing music endeavors. He was an excellent pianist and choral teacher. We were also adequately prepared for the competiveness of graduate schools- Columbia University, Rutgers University, SUNY, Lehigh University, University of Alabama, and University of South Carolina.

We did everything we wanted to do as far as national vocal, choral and piano required programs where we performed and participated. James passed away in 1994 but is still remembered as a son of Allen. After 46 years, I am still sought for my vocal, choral and stage directions, teaching and performance skills.

One very positive fact is: I still have dear friends and associates with whom I became attached since matriculating and graduating from Allen University. I am very active in the alumni endeavors and attend many programs at my Alma Mater. We do more than have beer parties!!!

High School students must find a passionate skill and seek a college or university where you can hone it to a finer degree of performance. Hopefully Allen will be the place for some who read this response.
