College is what you make of it and Case fulfills that stereotype. However, one caveat to this is that there is a bent to all this; Case is filled with people who were considered "losers" in high school so most people here have some sort of inferiority complex. There is quite a bit of partying and studying as well; thus, there is absolutely NO intellectual environment; this period of time is used up by stereotypical frat-like partying. Thus, people here don't come here to learn but rather want a finishing school for relatively intelligent people who want good jobs. Pre-professional? Oh yes. There is also very little grade inflation now as the administration has come cracking down starting with the liberal arts departments which have now become some of the hardest departments in the school particularly political science, english and history (anthropology to some extent, although there was little grade inflation here anyhow). This is done because case now wants to achieve a higher reputation and attract better quality liberal arts kids, forcing out science majors who want "cake" courses to pad their GPA.

I was a slacker in high school with 1500 on my SATs and a straight C average who thought that i would go to college and get a 4.0. Not so. Starting with the Class of 2006, the SAGES program was created to

teach future doctors, engineers and scientists
to write. It's a C or a B now for work that would previously recieve A's. Science majors fume at this along with the difficulties of humanities classes that are now extremely difficult (100+ pages of reading a day in some humanities courseloads.

Good Academics, Variable social life, no intellectual life, crappy city (cleveland sucks, the winters here are brutal)

Case. If you want to work as little as possible to become an engineer, doctor, scientist; come here. You'll go to a good grad school. Otherwise look elsewhere, while not terrible here, there are far better opportunities. Know what makes you happy.

Myself, I have a 3.5 GPA and I'm graduating this year; I'll probably go to a decent grad school; will I prepared? Hard to say. (something that would never be the case at a more humanities oriented school)
