My needs would have been much better served at either a state university or a different liberal arts college. The experiences I had at Evangel sqaushed any interest or desire I ever had for serving God and being involved in ministry of any sort. It was not until 3-4 years post-graduation that I began to attend church again and sort out my spirituality on my own, instead of simply swallowing what they attempted to force-feed me at Evangel. The religious right in general, and pentecostals in particular are a scary bunch. It is all for show. The emphasis on materialism runs counter to what it means to be a true follower of Jesus. Also, the emphasis on outward appearance is grindingly annoying. Does Jesus really care how you dress to go to the cafeteria to eat your lunch? |
