Creighton University seemed like such a good choice for me. A Catholic Jesuit University with prestigous programs in Medicine and Law. I thought that I was going to be happy with my decision.

However, I have been extremely disappointed in the University for many reasons. One, I am not Catholic. Since I didn't share the same exact beliefs as my Catholic counterparts, I seemed to be shunned off by certain students and faculty. I'm not saying all of them were this way, but an overwhelming number were. It kind of shocked me because I thought of Catholics as friendly and accepting, which I never felt at all.

Also I thought a Jesuit Catholic University was going to provide me with a stimulating, challenging education. Creighton was not up to that standard, but seemed to be slightly above the level of my high school courses. It didn't feel like I was challenged in my beliefs or anything. Many of the professors at Creighton didn't teach me to be a free thinker. I was looking forward to college having professors that made me go above and beyond, make my own mistakes and learn from them. I never felt that here at Creighton.

That then brings me to the overall environment of the school. Drab, conservative and boring. No diversity, no variety, nothing. A bunch of Midwest Catholics with a few Catholics elsewhere sprinkled in for good measure. Most come from small towns in Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri or South Dakota. No one had a different kind of personality. Everyone just followed everyone. The weekends were a joke. People would either go to "frat parties" (frats and soroities here are a joke) or play video games in the dorm room. No one ever ventured outside, though the city pretty much sucked. There was no real college environment or feeling to it.

Overall, after one year at Creighton, I decided to go to a school that was much more diverse, more open in their thinking and had a better college atmosphere. If you are from the Midwest or like the Catholic values in your education, you should check out Creighton.
