Rarely did a recruiter or someone in HR ever hear of John Carroll. Some recruiters who would open up as to why another candidate was slected for a job did admit, "Your undergraduate school was not impressive. There were candidates from better schools." (I am sure there were otehr reasons too, but it's noteworthy to hear they don't like or never heard of the school.) The Placement Office at JCU did little beyond telling you to "sell yourself - you've gotta sell yourself", as they kept posting copies from newspapers on the wall. Further, as to being a "Jesuit school" - as if that is something special - everyone is not impressed with a Jesuit school. You are competing against people from the Ivy League, the California state school system, and interviewers who hold their own religious affiliation as better. If you want to spend the rest of your life answering "Where's that?" go to John Carroll. |
