I was not the right person. I thought a small college would give me the chance to know everyone, see faculty all of the time, and just be in a good small community. I really regret this now. The students for the most part are either artsy or just snobby. This is everyone's idea of a party: sit in a dorm room with a few friends and drink until you pass out. Then wake up in the morning and brag about it with your friends over a mediocre breakfast. I will say that Colby has an excellent campus and is always maintained and beautiful. It is, however, constantly being changed and you can never go anywhere without hearing construction. Colby might be for some people, but from what I saw, a lot of the people there (myself included) were just downright miserable and had to be fake to have friends. And the worst part of it all, was that I couldn't get away from it. Colby is placed on top of an isolated hill in one of the most sketchy towns in all of Maine (and that's saying something). You'd be lucky to go into Waterville at night and come out alive. Also, Colby claims to be ultra competitive and have top notch academics, but no one seems to actually know this aside from Colby kids and their parents. Nobody seems to care either. When people ask where I go to school and I say Colby, the common response is "where's that?". I had high hopes for Colby, and was really disappointed that it didn't work out. For prospective students, don't let my review dissuade you from Colby - you might love it, but I highly recommend you spend a day & night there with an admitted student before deciding that this is the school for you. |
