This school has good and potentially bad aspects.

UCSB is set on bluffs surrounded by the sea. On any outer rim of campus you have views of the Pacific Ocean and beach, which can be taken advantage of all year. The weather gets cloudy in May and June and kind of cold in the winter but being for the northeast it always feels nice to me. The Campus is wonderfully maintained and is very beautiful. Not many of the buildings match as in traditional brick style collegiate atmospheres, but this is due to its rapid growth. When friends came to visit me from the east coast they could not believe that this is where I went to college.

UCSB is constantly expanding in terms of student housing and academic buildings. Through this increase in construction and the higher demand for admission UCSB continues to climb the school ranking lists, being ranked 44th in the nation, and 13th best public. While some may try to discredit the school due to its long and continued reputation as a wild party school, UCSB has many different programs each designed to give you a broad background in all aspects of your field of study while still getting a liberal arts education with the completion of your GE's. Most of the professors are top notch and some even award winning, you have the chance to be surrounded by many intelligent people in a beautiful, relaxed and fun atmosphere.

The partying, can be a good and bad thing. Parties in Isla Vista, which is the neighboring town to UCSB, is made up mostly of UCSB and SBCC students. When you put thousands of college kids in a small beach town you are bound to get parties. While the party scene is very big, if you really wanted to you could avoid it. There are many other things to do on campus and in the downtown area but partying is still the top choice for weekend activities. Many people get fed up with the party scene after freshman year and few leave because they want a school with less of a party atmosphere. As long as you have good time management you will be fine.

Overall, UCSB is one of the best places to go to school, with a great downtown, amazing college atmosphere, the beach, the weather, great academics and increasing scholastic reputation it does not get much better. I would not want to be anywhere else.
