As you read these comments, keep in mind that Cornell isn't one college, even at the undergraduate level. It's a group of separate colleges and schools, each with its own unique personality. In one of the schools, the students are mostly female, in another they're almost all male, two others are popular with international students and an another most of the students seem to be from Long Island. Some are extremely selective, some brutally tough, some are both, and some are neither. Even within a particular school, Cornell is what you make it. If you do your work, reach out to profs and others who can help you, and make a point of getting involved in an activity that you love, you'll do well, make friends, and have fun. If you don't do those things, you won't do well and won't have fun either. It's as simple as that. This is not a good university for a person who needs a lot of help figuring out what to do with his life, setting goals and priorities, vetting friends, and generally making choices. But it's a good place for a mature young adult who has the self-discipline necessary to seize opportunities and have a lot of fun along the way. |
