We have not always been a good school but within the last two years we have come to rival or exceed GW in many areas. The academic faculty and many staff members are, for the most part, very helpful and accessible. Many faculty members are adjuncts, working in their field and teaching on the side. This makes many faculty members have unique prospectives and they are very helpful in creating networking connections. The president and deans are also very kind and hold regular get-togethers with students. The career center is also an invaluable resource for students. The university has bad elements, and they are the people who staff the offices of Financial Aid and Housing & Dining. Both offices are very unresponsive to students needs, and I have had to result to threats several times to get action taken on important matters. Members of the financial aid office have blatantly insulted me because they felt "I was irresponsible and that was why I didn't know they had changed my financial aid awards." After I asked them to show me a copy of the message they sent me notifying me of the change (a record they are legally obligated to retain), and they were unable to locate it in their records, they told me it was a "glitch in the system" and offered no apology. While poor service in these offices shouldn't deter you from coming to AU, you must arrive on day one understanding that you have to be active and stern when dealing with these people. |
