This is a school usually for older working adults, who might have missed the first bus of opportunity to go to college or maybe they just don't have mum and pop paying for them and decided to do the smart thing and save THOUSANDS of dollars by doing their GE here. This isn't a party school, social school or like omg, frats and sororities everywhere. Now, I do attend night classes which attract a more mature population than the 18 year old straight out of high school - so it's probably a different experience. This is an excellent college to be used as a stepping stone for the next level, whatever it may be. You need to be PROACTIVE in getting things done here - you need to talk to a counselor, do your research and double check everything. Also, instructors care about you passing or failing but are NOT going to hold your hand and bend over backwards for you. This is a college, and you actually have to do work and study. It's a very simple formula actually - study, do homework, study, take test. In the "real" world, your boss does not care that you were up until 1:00 am taking care of your sick kid - that project needs to get DONE and your butt is on the line if it isn't. That's how college should be done, there are no excuses! Some teachers are better than others, be wary and try to get referrals or check ratemyprofessor.com.The campus is nice and quiet (at night at least), and the hours for the various departments are accommodating to us working folks. There is also a new program called ACE just for working adults, very nice. So basically, this college is what it is - a community college and most people are working their butts off every single day to get their work/life/school/kids taken care of - give 'em some slack. But the cell phones during class HAVE to stop unless you are a darn CEO or doctor and need to be on call. Annoying :P |
