I had a great time at UM. I was somewhat shy out of high school and I grew up in small towns. So, UM was the best choice for me. The town was small so I didn't feel lost in it. And since the student/teacher ratio was so advantageous, teachers knew who I was. It made me work harder to gain their respect and attention. I became a better student at UM than I was in high school. I felt the whole university worked as a team and I had so many positive experiences there. Living on-campus was better than off-campus. Off-campus, I felt more left out of the whole university experience. I stayed for grad school as well. At the time, not sure about now, the history faculty was top-notch and I am very proud of my history degree from there. I also worked in the Education Dept. and I was impressed by them as well. I would say UM is great for those with liberal arts or education majors, those who want or need more professor interaction, and those who are from and who can appreciate small towns.
