Statistical Analyzer:

I am a nursing major at SAU so most of my complaints regarding faculty are aimed at the nursing department. The other faculty in the biology, business, and general ed departments were great. I never had any complaints or problems regarding them. The only thing I could say is that the general ed classes (history/english/etc) are a little too easy. You dont really have to study or learn anything to pass.

Now the nursing faculty. Laura Shirey, Caroline Hammond, Jill Atteberry, and Theresa Herron have to be the most rude, condescending, unhelpful, unconcerned, and hypocritical faculty members I have ever had the misfortune of taking. They are the medical/surgical faculty and you have no choice but to take them for a full year. They talk down to the students as if they are third graders (some of the class is old enough to be their parent's friends). They teach from one book but pull test questions from other sources - a lot of the topics are never taught/touched on in class or in our book. They do not want to hear anything even remotely suggesting that there is a mistake with their test questions. If you have a problem with a faculty member dont waste your time letting anyone know - you'll be told get over it and suck it up as I was. Don't get caught in the hallway going to use the restroom during a class which YOU pay for… you'll be caught by the hall monitor - Laura Shirey - and talked to like you're a stupid kid then sent back to class without getting to go. They teach one thing in class yet when a fellow student performed in clinicals as he was taught in class - he was written up for it for god knows what reason.

There are plenty of better nursing programs in the area. SAU has the LOWEST NCLEX PASS RATE for a college of its size in the ENTIRE STATE and the third lowest in the state PERIOD!!! You WILL NOT be prepared for boards with this program. You will NOT learn adequate skills to prepare you for becoming a nurse. RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!
