My personal experience is that one does more work (and harder work) to get through community college courses than Metro requires. The faculty is well chosen for their skill sets, not for their teaching ability. Vague instructions are the norm, with subjective grading being the standard method. This is not to say I have a bone to pick, I currently have a 3.9 GPA. I just believe that a higher level of academic rigor is needed at this school. However, this style and level of teaching will do well to prepare students for the often vague, subjective world of industry which awaits each and every eager graduate just waiting to have their dreams crushed by economies of scale. On another note, I am of the opinion that the lack of educational quality at Metro is well known within the state, and may have a severe negative impact on later employability for its graduates. Again, just my opinion. As a side note, I have heard absolute horrors from friends who are ESL students. The Writing Center has told a number of them that they are unable to help ESL students on their papers becauseIt would just take too long to teach ESL students what they need to know in order to present a decent paper.Which is complete garbage. Most ESL students have a better grasp of the English language than the average American.I would leave this school immediately if it weren't for family ties keeping me in Denver for the next two years. |
