I wanted to address some of the issues that people have posted. I had to transfer out of Asbury. I am now going to another school, so I have attended via that and summer school classes, many different types of schools. I have learned this, no college is perfect, and not every college is right for everyone. Asbury is right for those who want to feel apart of a group or community. It is right for those who want to grow in a safe environment. You will learn from Asbury. The experience differs greatly depending on whom you choose to surround yourself with and how you choose to use the opportunities available. Yes, Asbury has rules and to some too many of them, the question is can you live with them. I could, maybe you cannot, and it is okay. The staff is more flexible than what some students seem to think. I know from experience and people really do care about you as a person at Asbury. Asbury is a Christian college, and does have the same problems as found in the Christian community at large. Some people re more closed minded, but they are trying to be like Christ and do what they think is right. I would not consider myself one of them, in fact not everyone agreed with my opinions on the Christian faith while I was there. When I spoke out on my faith, my beliefs, and so forth, I found that their are many more people who are open minded and that the others where the small group, who are just more vocal. A few are arrogant or elitist and come from far more money than I did, most of them that I knew hated Asbury, which is very service oriented, or they changed more to open minded individuals. As for per-marital sex or drinking, it does not come recommended while at Asbury. The rule against it is base off biblical belief and Christian tradition. It is about wanting the best for their students. They do not accept it as a lifestyle while at Asbury. If you live that way, it is taken to say that you have no respect to school's Christian values. If it just happens, like what happened to me, they are forgiving, open, supportive, and very helpful. Think about how you want to live your life and changes you are willing to make before going to any college. I greatly regret not being able to graduate from Asbury. Looking back at the good and the bad, Asbury was still a great choice for me. There are things I wish to change, and as a student, you have a great deal of power of influencing change compared to other colleges. I was able to make my experience into what I wanted and needed. If Asbury is the right school for you, when you will be able to do the same.
