So, I got both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from IU from 1992 - 1999. I had been in that town long enough that I couldn't go anywhere without seeing several people I knew. So, I couldn't wait to finish and get the hell out of Indiana. It's only after working professionally for nearly 10 years that I realize what a unique and good experience I had at IU. The town is extremely unique and, after having been in other college towns like Ann Arbor, Champaign-Urbana and Chapel Hill, no one has got anything on Bloomington as the ultimate college town experience. You can get as much or as little as you want from it, but this place has a lot to offer every type of interest. The school itself has a great reputation both in the state and out-of-state, which means your degree carries some weight and helps in getting jobs. I will say that because it was so big, I often felt like the system worked against you (like a gazillion parking tickets in the D spaces), but it's part of learning how to live in the real world. Anyways, most people I know who have gone to IU and have left Indiana think very fondly of their time there and still visit when they can. Great school, good atmosphere, friends and stories you'll carry with you for the rest of your life. |
