It seems that a lot of the comments left were either by a faculty/staff member, or one of the "golden children" that Lyon gives all priority to.

The average student at Lyon does what they need to, can be "best friends" with anyone, and will chase and cling to any relationship. Most friendships struck me as incredibly shallow, people just wanting friends (or a relationship), though sorority sisters and frat brothers will assure you on how much they love each other.

Every class or so, there will be a student or who the college just seems to give everything to, and speaks of as though they are the only Lyon students. Others shine in their own way, but it seems so… Bleek if you're not one of those few.

The surrounding town is pretty bad, but they do have a Wal-Mart and most fast food restaurants. You will need a car, or a good buddy to get to them, though. The food on campus really could use work, though the dessert "room" is usually awesome.

Greek life is held as a priority to most friendships by anyone in the organization. Really, it's the easiest way to make it out of Lyon sane… Though it just wasn't for me, hence one of the reasons I'm leaving.

Campus life is pretty dead, though they do try from time to time. The campus is gung-ho for concerts, and though SAC tries to get more variety, the staff tends to override their ideas with more concerts (usually unknown artists, though we did have John McClaughlin out of the blue during finals week).

Honor Council is taken VERY seriously at Lyon (leading to some pretty conceited attitudes from some of its members), however Social Council is more lax (though it still holds importance and people do get sanctioned). SGA seems important, until the college president overruled a unanimous vote against the Dell computer idea (which raises tuition for freshmen by $4,000, as well as "lends" them a subpar -not awful- Dell notebook computer every two years).

The faculty, for the most part, is comprised of some rather brilliant people! I'm very impressed with how knowledgable they were on their subjects, and very willing to try to help. The departments are TINY, so you will have the same teacher for a few different classes. For the most part, this isn't a problem though.

The school just seems so socially miserable for students. The campus just seems starved of intimacy, and having only 400-500 students can really show the effects. Most students who leave claim that they're much happier, though I'm assuming this is mainly for social reasons.

Educationally, however, it's really good. It's unfortunate that it's only recognized for its educational value by Arkansas and a few surrounding areas. It's really up to you to decide what you find to be most valuable.

You will get tired of hearing its US News Best Value rating.
