It is my intent to take graduate level courses in mathematics and physics while working towards my undergraduate degrees, and this school is quite lacking in its ability to provide me with such an opportunity. It is therefore necessary that I transfer to another university for my upper division courses.I have managed to uproot a few people of interest who are currently attending this school, though they are few and far between. The vast majority of students seem preoccupied with the baser concerns of life and most seek only to be in the position to recieve more pay in the working world as a reward for their arduous 'waste of time' rather than savoring their opportunity for self development. As I have a very diverse set of interests, including art(which I have won awards for), music(avant-jazz, I play a couple instruments and actively study advanced music theory), mathematics/formal logic, and philosophy to name a few, I do have trouble finding companionship here. This is not problematic. Many of my friends attend University of Cincinnati, where I plan to transfer for my upper division courses(and I do recommend it to any one in my boat if you wish to stay local), and I do not depend on making many new friends at NKU, my old ones suffice. The staff is generally acceptable, though not as competent as I would like. One philosophy professor was entirely unsatisfactory and would skirt my questions anytime he had trouble answering them rather than saying 'I don't know', and it wasn't as if he didn't have time for debate, we often left with an hour left of class(it was a one time a week 3 hour course). The majority of the professors are semi-failed academics, which is really no surprise.Overall, I would say that should you want to save money, this school is good for the first two years, otherwise, get out and go somewhere else. |
