That is that you are given endless opportunities to learn and grow, but must make an effort to get the most out of it. Nor is it a school for those who cannot follow through on a commitment to the rules. It is no secret that Moody has a very strict set of rules that governs student life, but none of these are a secret to new students. They must all sign and agree to live by the Student Life Guide. Complaints by students against the SLG are voided by their prior agreement to adhere to while attending Moody.YES, MBI is a school to train students in the Bible. It is a Bible Institute. Though there are other specializations available, Bible is what Moody does best and Bible is what everyones degree will be in. If you want to go to a law school, note that Moody BIBLE Institute may not be the best place for you. It would be like going to Home Depot to buy a car.Fortunately what Moody specializes in, they do well. With no surprise that Moody does have a position on most matters of contest within the Bible, all professors I have had have been gracious to dialog about various interpretations. Note that the majority of professors are highly educated and experienced in their fields, so be well prepared (and educated) if you wish to challenge them.I also found the staff highly concerned with the wellbeing of the student body. Many professors give their personal time to meet with, counsel, disciple, or just dialog with students. In most cases, the professors will not come to you though. But always have their doors open for students.Social life. As with any experience it is largely what you make of it. Brother and Sister floors are assigned to allow for prepared outings for girls and guys. You may like them, or not, but there is nothing preventing students from getting to know anyone else on the campus. Of course this will require effort on ones own part. Bro-Sis and other events are designed to provide fun activities for students without any personal planning. They are not a limitation to your social life, rather a starting point.PCM and ministry opportunity. Again, largely what you make of it. You can choose to do the bare minimum and just complete your PCM. Or you can take advantage of the boundless opportunities in the city to really be a part of a ministry. The same goes for being part of a church. You can just fill a pew, or dive into a congregation and be a part of peoples lives. Why not? Since its what you are planning on doing with your degree. Personally, my first semester I found a church which I can serve in and have since become a part of the congregation. Though I would minister there regardless, working with the youth also fulfills my PCM requirement.In conclusion, Moody Bible Institute is not for everyone. But if you can agree to live by their standards, and make the most of every opportunity presented to you, you will not be disappointed. The program is highly specialized and rigorous. |
