Good: OU has an attractive, safe campus with some of the best athletic teams most of the time. These factors provide a definate sense of school spirit (at least during football season and maybe parts of basketball season). Its not that hard to get in if you meet all the deadlines. Plus once you are accepted to OU its not difficult to change majors. Or at least not as difficult as it is at some other schools. The meteorology program is supposed to be the best there is. If you come here as a freshman you are very likely to get on campus housing if you apply for it. People are generally courteous, they'll say hello to you if you say hello to them, open doors, give you directions, etc..etc…The bad:OU simply isn't that great of a school. There are students who walk around the OU campus thinking that they're at an Ivy League quality school but OU I would say that OU is bascially average (or slighty below) as far as prestige goes. Thats a reality that will probably hit some students pretty hard at the time of graduation. Greek life is very present on campus if you're not part of it then you may find that those that are greek will be unlikely to associate with you.The Ugly:Do you consider yourself an open minded, motivated, independent individual? Then you might have to beat yourself in the head with a brick to fit in around here (kidding! but the intent is to make a point). There are smart people here but for every 1 intelligent individual there are 10 idiots. Norman is typical small-town Oklahoma so dont expect much culture or excitement. You'll find that campus security goes around to the dorms at night to make sure theres no members of the opposite sex in your room or they will fine you. After over a year I've managed to find a niche here but I see my friends at other schools that seem to be getting so much more out of their college experience so I cannot honestly recommend OU. |
