Hamline University is a Methodist-affiliated school in the Twin Cities. If you hope to pursue a career in politics or international affairs, you will benefit from attending. There are a lot of programs you can minor in that will complement the poli. sci. degree well.

If you really want to study abroad, consider Hamline. About one out of every six students studies abroad and there are some really unique destinations, including New Zealand and eastern Africa.

The campus is not very good-looking, but that's mostly because of weather damage from the extensive snow and hail that Minnesota gets. Be prepared for frigid, sub-zero winters if you come to Hamline.

Student government is huge here and faculty actually does listen to their reccomendations. Speaking of professors, they can be snooty, but the ones who have stayed here for a while instead of moving on to a better-known school, love teaching and will bend over backwards to help you learn if you show them respect.

The Twin Cities are not all they're cracked up to be. Sure there are lots of restaurants, but the night-life is dead because everyone is so depressed here. And it can be really dangerous at night - two of the guys from my dorm got mugged and I've only been here one year. If you have a car, unlike in other cities, it might be worthwhile to bring it, but make sure it has an alarm in case someone tries to steal it.

Most of the students here are from Minnesota and Wisconsin. Some knew each other in high school, which can cause clique problems, but if you're from the Midwest you'll be fine. People from other areas… I can't make you any promises that you'll be comfortable with the laid back, conservative atmosphere.

I'm very happy at Hamline and look forward to the next two-and-a-half years.
