I think that Emerson, overall, really prepared me as a theatre artist. In terms of the design department, I feel like I was given opportunities and a well-rounded insight into what it means to be a designer and a craftsperson. Academically, I feel Emerson has a really wonderful position in combining liberal arts with major classes. There were several concepts learned in liberal arts that crossed over to inform designs and research for show.I wish I had gone to the scene shop more for general building work. But I did work outside in the Boston theatre scene and learned a TON. Get involved. Learning is beyond the classroom, and Emerson encourages that.Don't get stuck in one thing. I did a LOT of theatre, but I took time to work on campus, participate in other clubs, run a charity week, and try out different jobs like marketing and TV production. Don't be afraid to try stuff and ask questions. I repeat, ASK QUESTIONS! :) |
