A group of friends decided to go back to school and complete degrees and a number of us later joined the Teacher Certification Program.DEGREE COMPLETION: BA. At the time most of these classes were part online and all day Saturday. Basically if you paid the tuition, attended class and did a nominal amount of homework you get a diploma. We all agree we learned little or nothing, and the program is about as close to a diploma mill as you can get.EDUCATOR CERTIFICATION: Since the LeTourneau diploma did little to further our careers or open any new doors, six of went into the PACT program. This is really a joke. Complete chaos. This program is run by a bunch of mediocre former school teachers, most of whom have some connection with the school such as a husband on the faculty. For these ditzy school teachers to be able to say they "teach" at a university is the highpoint of their careers and they are very much impressed with themselves. Alternative Certification in Texas really only requires a couple of very common sense state examinations, some classroom experience, and the recommendation of a state approved preparation program that you can qualify for through any number of schools/agencies for far less than LeTourneau charges. The Teacher Certification Program is a HUGE RIP-OFF and a truly Christian school would not be overcharging for this shabby program! The LeTourneaus financed LeTourneau College to fill a specific need, and in that capacity it served many very well. And, while there are still some sincere Christian men and women involved with the institution it's getting harder and harder to tell the good guys from the phonies. |
