I was able to hold out for three VERY long weeks here before giving up and hoofing it out of the institution in favor of private tutoring back home. Truth be told, it is a solid place for many individuals, but if you have tasted the fruits of true freedom at any liberal arts college not really specializing in structuring a person's life, be it along the lines of St John's, Middlebury, Carleton and the like, and only go to this place on leave of absence to improve your skills, it might be advisable to go elsewhere or, if you have the money, look for tutors who can advise you in what you need. The school attempts to start you academically from square one, no matter what your background, obsessed with doing things their way, which means taking what basically accounts to Middle School English all over again for the required writing assignment, complete with answering the very simplistic reading questions in the book. The place simply inundates you with useless and obscenely easy academic work to provide context for skills (which does not work for everyone with the learning disabilities they treat, as not everyone is easily motivated to learn new skills or work on assignments in unrealistically easy conditions), condescends to you and holds your hand through absolutely everything in a very "Big Brotherly" manner, and generally makes life for you and to some degree, accommodation (contrary to what some people say about the place) a living hell. Despite this, the professors are very defensive of the school. I won't deny that some of them (that is, one of the seven i met) were very warm and friendly, but the others were moderately pretentious, very "holier than thou," and absolutely convinced that their way was the right way…A wonder then, why so many kids are able to sneak in a game of World of Warcraft on their laptops during class. The school is no doubt very structured and could possibly offer something in the long run, but the way I see it? If they're going to push you to go through so much pain initially, forcing you through such early classes so manipulatively (and by God, they guilt trip like you've never seen before) there is little reason to try to tough it all out…especially if you live nearby alternative learning resources.
