Hi Everyone-

I am a USD alum with a few important things to say about the school. Firstly, I am an east coast girl, very used to a more aggressive, direct, and cut-throat environment.

I went here and wasn't sure what to expect- I had only visited the campus one time for 20 minutes when I decided this gorgeous campus was right for me.

My first year was completely MISERABLE. I lived in an all-girls dorm, where there was no partying, and my classes were a JOKE. I was with so many dumb blondes who had obviously bought their way into the University, and I was embarrassed to be associated with them.

HOWEVER, come sophomore year, I declared my major (Business) and suddenly classes were challenging and dynamic. I don't think many of the dumb rich kids lasted very long in this program, as once I was a business student, I was surrounded by very intelligent, proactive students.

It was difficult for me to make friends at first. I did not join a sorority (although I DID join a Business Fraternity) but once I found people I got along with, they were truly my best friends (and still are, to this day).

You really need to stick it out and find good people (I feel this is the case anywhere). But once you find your place, you WILL be set for life. The networking I did here is invaluable.

The social life is…interesting. It is impossible to party on campus, and very difficult to get into bar if you aren't 21 (NOTE- I had VERY good fake id's when I was younger- THEY WILL NOT WORK IN SAN DIEGO!) Bouncers will scan and black light your id to provide verification, so as an underage drinker, you MUST stick to house parties, bonfires, day kegs on the beach, ETC.

I hated this school the first semester, but once I found my friends and my major, life seemed to take a turn for the best. I currently live overlooking the Pacific Ocean and love life- I couldn't imagine going anywhere else.
