I felt very alone and that the city and university was too small for me. However, this feeling only lasted about a week and I think that for students going out of state this is normal for any college. Now I can say that I love UWL. There are so many things to do here, on campus, downtown or outdoors, you just have to get out and do things. There are tons of clubs and activities to be involved in and you can meet great people while doing them. The people here are very friendly and one of my favorite things about La Crosse is that everyone is so active, you always see people exercising and playing sports and everyone seems to be in good shape. The down side is that there are a lot of cops here constantly patrolling but as long as you don't act sketchy and try to run away they will leave you alone. The social life here is great, but you do have to make connections to know where to go. There are always house parties going on Thursday-Saturday and drinking is a big part of college life here. I highly reccommend UWL, it's just the right size, classes are challenging but you feel engaged and not just a body in the back of the room and instructors have time to help you outside of class. UWL is also a highly ranked university so you're getting a quality education for a fraction of the big ten colleges. Join clubs and find things you like to do and get to know the people around you cuz chances are they're looking for friends too. Come to UWL! |
