It is a truly diverse community of intellectual students who are simply trying to make a difference in the world. The professors are cultured and fascinating people. There is not a single one of them who is just teaching "for the hell of it." Macon as a city is not exactly Lower Manhattan. If you don't enjoy clubbing, then your social life will pretty much die unless you formulate a taste for going to dance clubs downtown. I will admit, as others have mentioned, that it is a little clique-ish;however, it is certainly not hard to make friends if you are involved in extra curricular activities. The programs are quite competitive here, so don't come here looking for an "easy major." They simply don't exist. Greek life is also a dominating factor of the social scene, which can be a bit intimidating if, like me, Greek doesn't appeal to you. Also, the school is very Southern in the sense that if you plan on working above the Mason-Dixon line, don't expect your employer to be familiar with this school beyond breeding successful Southern statesmen. There are enough clubs to fit every personality on campus, so there is really no excuse for sitting in your room playing video games all day. GET INVOLVED! That is the biggest advice I can possibly give. Professors will note it. Class size is perfect here. Usually 20-30 students, the professor will know your name by the third week of classes and discussion is always appropriate and will help you make a good impression on your professor. All in all, I came to this school expecting to find a collection of uniform, snooty, wealthy white kids, but I was completely surprised by what I found instead. The campus is wonderful at fostering new ideas and teaching students to be free thinkers. |
