However, every building still looks the same as it did in 1884. Some people say that it is historic and they have walked in the footsteps of those before them, but that is bull. The College of William and Mary which was founded in 1793 with its 586 million dollar endowment is the second oldest institution in the country. Yet they maintain their facilities. They simply do not say that because it's historic, it must look like crap and can't be fixed. The place needs to close. Its incompetent faculty and staff need to be fired. Its President needs to learn how to lead an institution. Its Dean of Students needs to stop spending the college's five dollar endowment. The dining hall, while serving wonderful food, needs to be propped up because it is rapidly sinking and is about to collapse just as the attached porch next door of Hodges. I feel that the Reverend Harrison Jones, when he founded Virginia Intermont, had no intentions of creating an institution that cannot survive because of how it operates. The college and board of directors, administration, faculty and staff has no leader. No one to lead it down the right path and it is a shame because the school once had great potential. Now Virginia Intermont needs to bow out on its own free will before it's forced to close because of a lack on enrollment, lack of funding and lack of competent people to run it. |
