School is expensive these days, and although I really need to go somewhere else to get the education I want and need, (I'm going to be an apparel marketing/management major next year)I can't because of ridiculous prices everywhere. I'm trying to get by with as little debt as possible, and going to ESU has definitely helped. It's dirt cheap. I live down the street with my parents, so that's a factor. Anyway, I've lived in Emporia my whole life and I am so sick of it. This place is incredibly boring, people have no taste, are close-minded, and just blah over all. I mean, these people argue over train whistles and Obama on the city newspaper's website. It's truly pathetic. The student body isn't bad. I don't feel like I connect with anyone and I have made absolutely no new friends at all. Everyone just goes to get through the day. The teachers are pretty bad too. Most of them are rude and condescending. I smiled at a teacher in the hallway (to be polite like any well mannered person would do) and I got glared at. Another one of my teachers is only interested in proving me wrong and telling me MY way of learning is flawed and wrong. The whole faculty doesn't seem to understand how different people can be.Technology is way behind. Most classrooms will either strongly discourage the use of laptops or not allow them at all. There is a program that the school uses called Blackboard that is very useful because students can check their grades online and see what assignments are coming up next and when they are due, etc. Only a select few have actually utilized this feature. Most of the teachers will not tell you your grade until you come in on your own time to their office and ask. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't have a lot of time to do that! I have a heavy class load (about 18 hours) and I am also working and taking care of my younger siblings for my parents. I just don't want to be so in the dark about my grades.Overall, this school is terrible. An absolute joke. It's cheap, but there is that saying "you get what you pay for" and it is definitely true here. |
