As a second year Game Design major at Bloomfield College, I try my best to look at the brighter side. The small class sizes are always welcomed, and there are a few teachers that do their best to provide a decent learning experience. However, I struggle to forget about the poor dorming conditions, the limited lab hours, the lack of on-campus activities, and the professors who I wouldn't recommend to teach a fifth grade class. I am astonished that I am able to pass my intro programming class with an A without knowing how to program. When petitions are circulating as an attempt to remove a teacher from the classroom, there is a problem, especially when it has no effect. Tenure is a double-edged sword that can save teachers from being fired unjustly, but can also prevent a school from removing a teacher that does nothing to further the education of the students. But the biggest problem of all would have to be the classes. Because the college offers Game Design, Japanese Language & Culture is a popular course for many students. However, the school only offers it once a semester as a half credit course. With small class sizes, this can make it difficult class to get in to. The professor has requested for additional sections to be offered and even proposed a full credit Japanese 2 class which was well received by students. Both of these were shot down. A full language can not be learned with a two hour class that meets once a week. Why is a class being turned down when a professor is willing to teach and there are enough students who want to join? Even worse, Bloomfield College denied a class that allowed students to fully work on a game from start to finish. And this would be taught by a professor who has worked in the game industry. This would be the perfect class to give students valuable experience to work in the field and allow students to show the finished product as part of their portfolio when applying for a job. It puzzles me why the higher ups of Bloomfield College would not give the students these classes while they proudly offer worthless classes such as Circus Arts. A friend of mine took the class for fun and said he practiced juggling every class and then wrote a three page paper for a final. I wish I was joking.
