I am currently a freshman at Monmouth University in my second semester. At first, I was really excited to attend- the place is great on paper with its beach location, small class sizes, and it's a good distance from my house- about an hour.

However, on arriving I was incredibly displeased.

First of all, there are a lot of kids here who I don't even know why they are IN college. It makes me feel ashamed to go to school with kids who I wonder how they even passed high school.

The honors school is a joke. The classes are cool, but I would rate those as good high school classes, at best.

I have had numerous professors who were terrible teachers- I felt like at a lot of times they had no idea what they were doing.

It feels small quickly because of the high number of commuters and people who live off campus, alot with the drastic amount who transfer out by Sophomore year. Barely anyone I know likes this school. Many stay more out of laziness than anything.

The meal plan is expensive and having one terrible dining hall is lame. I literally eat waffles for every meal because there is nothing else.

I wouldn't say everyone goes home on the weekend, it gets better as the year progresses. But EVERYBODY lives in the area. It's ridiculous.

The town hates the school, and the cops will tear you apart for one alcohol violation. The parties suck as it is, and since there is no frat row you have to get invited and get picked up by the frat house. Plus they all get busted by 1 am anyway.

The town is beat. You need a car to get absolutely anywhere, which is too bad because it would probably be cool since Pt Pleasant, Seaside, the mall, and so many cool restaurants are pretty close.

Everyone is a guido.

There are no free reading books in the library, which is bs.

However, I won't lie, there are some good parts.

All the buildings are very close- ten minutes away at the most.

You get to know people quickly because of the small size, so its not hard to make friends.

Its cool being by the beach in the spring and all.

Basically all of the staff is pretty friendly and helpful.

Classes are small and you get individualized attention.

Good advisors. Alot of hand holding here.
