Activities on campus were more spontaneous and do-it-yourself back then. Churchgoing Christians and non-practicing Christians were more unified and got along very well because non-alcohol activities were abundant & pretty cool like office chair races, dorm dances with 500 attending, mosh-pits, midnight mud football, spam-fights, sperm-men, streaking, dogpile R.A.'s we didn't like. Then the beer started flowing beyond control in 1993 and everything went bye-bye. Enforcement was downright unforgiving, and things were clean & politically-correct by the late 90's which mounted to a pretty boring place. Most alumni might remember 1994 being a landmark year of change when PLU split the freshman class orientation in two which started the whole talk about lack of unity on campus because lots of freshmen were like 'Uh, who are YOU?' to other freshmen instead of seeing a familiar face from summer. That's not right! (Trust me, I was there, we Dorm Council grunge guys were on damage control trying to repair the situation) It was up to Student government to keep a few activities and traditions alive because students weren't really meshing like they used to. If I were 18 today, I wouldn't go to PLU. It's a different place now with this naive social justice police mentality meshed with Lutheran disciplinarian approaches to indoctrinating liberal green thought which guarantees a total split-a-rama on campus. And it's way too expensive anyway. For the 'old PLU Experience' I enjoyed soo much, I would recommend Western, Eastern, or Wazzu. |
