I graduated from OU last June (2009). While I have made my own success, I unfortunately cannot attribute much, if any of that success to my educational experience at OU. I received high As in

the most difficult courses,
and was not challenged for a minute. On top of that, the school 'lost' my graduation application and messed up quite a few things for me.

I probably had it better than most students simply because I was in the Communications program, more specifically, Organizational Communications. I was able to customize my specialization, which was AMAZING and I had exactly two good professors. One incredible one. That was it.

Regardless of the trouble I had to go through to get my degree, I graduated Summa Cum Laude, started a successful program for the Undergraduate Admissions office, and met a VERY FEW good people. I got my job at a successful Public Relations and Advertising firm ONE WEEK after beginning my search. I could not be happier now, but like I said, OU did little for me other than show me what I did NOT want out of life.

I like to party, don't get me wrong, but almost all of the students behaved so immaturely and disrespectfully about it. It was as though they had never tasted alcohol before (which was probably true). More than half of my college career, I was sad for other people. I will say it again, THE STUDENTS ARE VERY IMMATURE.

The school touts its support of "individualism." There is none. Just to set the stage a little bit: I was prom queen of my graduating class of 1,000 students, a cheerleader, voted most likely to be President, best smile, peer-voted overall captain for our gym night, a straight-A student and a big partier. This school made me feel like a loser because I was the only one with an open mind and my heart set on my future.

The following is a true story about my floor of my freshman dorm: eight out of the twenty something people on my floor freshman year dropped out due to

severe mental illness,
one kid almost died from alcohol poisoning (I called the ambulance and was hated by everyone on my floor for it), one girl got knocked up by a one-night stand and had to marry the guy, ten or so people transferred or got kicked out, and the rest of us wished we did. I have nothing against Ohio or its people, my brother currently lives in Ohio. I just think the children of Ohio are generally very naive, sheltered, and sad.

The campus is beautiful and there are some really great things going on at OU, yet I don't think it's worth it, particularly if you are bright and expect great things from your future. I think it may be a waste of money. It makes me sad when people say college was so much fun. I just think of all the drunken guys I had to push, hit, and kick just to stop touching me; I think of the poor police officers and horses who were physically and verbally abused by the rude students; I think of all the young girls who lost their way; I think of the people who went to college wanting so much out of it, yet got nothing. I was so happy to leave Ohio University and that fact makes me want to cry.
