The mentality of the school is work hard, play hard. Greek Life is huge but not the only thing to do on campus; it dominates social life freshman and sophomore year but less afterward. there are so many niche groups and the Commons experience for freshman has lessened the divide between greeks and independents. The academics are top-notch and Vandy continues to be underrated in the rankings. Professors here are brilliant and approachable and genuinely care about students. A plurality come as premeds and the weedout process is very tough. Students care more about each other's success then being cutthroat.Nashville is such a great town. Some of the old Vandy stereotype remains but don't let it discourage you. Students tend to be wealthy but accomodating, the school has southern flairs but a lot of regional diversity and is continuing to make strides to present a more diverse experience.I couldn't be happier with my decision, turning down Duke, Georgetown, UNC and the like for Vandy was a fantastic decision. |
