There is a lot to say about Concorida, good and bad. Is it primarliy conservative, christain, and white? Yes. Are we in Minnisota? Yes. Did I expect that? Yes. However, be smart about it. I am not religious and pretty liberal and while at times it was difficult to feel like I totally fit in I have found a great group of people to surround myself with who either have similar views as I do or are different yet can respect what I believe. There can be some tense moments in class when opinions clash, but that makes it interesting. There is without a doubt a bubble, a prof I have who just moved here points it out which makes me sure that it exists. But be smart about that too- no one is trapping you on campus, even if you live there. Get off from time to time, go do things in the area (there is more to do than you might expect, you just have to look), it will make you feel more sane. Volunteer, go to a free live concert, other people exist in the area and it isn't that hard to find them. The classes and profs do stand out, and that is what makes me glad I am here. I'm not in a class with 200 people. The profs know my name and have time to meet with me about questions… I don't get along with all of them but I don't know who would expect to. The classes are not always challeging or perfect, but you will learn. Decide to make it into a positive, and you'll be happy. |
