Statistical Analyzer:

The first thing that I would say to somebody considering studying in Memphis who doesn't come from there is this: I lived in Memphis for 13 years and most people I met who didn't come from Memphis didn't like it there. The U of M is located in the middle of Memphis, and most places within the Memphis City Limits are dangerous. Also, the public transportation in Memphis is very bad. As for the university itself, from an academic standpoint, it's not too bad. In my experience, the professors are fairly good, and I had some interesting classes. However, from an administrative standpoint, the school is very badly run. The residence halls are very loud, and there are a lot of tough kids on campus. It's outrageous when there's no quiet place to study for the classes which you're going into debt to pay for. Also, the bathroom facilities are inadequate, as the shower stalls have no locks. The kitchen facilities are also inadequate, in my residence hall, one kitchen had to be shared by two floors of students. My advice is that if you study at the University of Memphis, don't live on campus.
