The reason why I decided to go to UWGB was because the campus was so pretty with all the trees and the Kress center looked like so much fun and there were these little fliers on the tables when I went to the tour day that talked about all there was to do that weekend. While the campus stayed pretty throughout the year and while the Kress Center is a really great place to work out there are fun weekend about once a month…the rest of the time it's a suitcase campus (meaning that everybody packs up their suitcases on the weekends and goes home) and even if it wasn't I still wouldn't have been happy. I wasn't taken seriously until problems got to places where they should have gone…example #1-my first roomie had serious mental issues and even though I talked to my RAs about getting a room change they didn't seem to care and it wasn't until she started letting stray guys who didn't even go to college at UWGB into the room late at night…she didn't come in with them, she'd just send them in did I get a new room. My second roomie was a heavy drug user and I told my RAs in the new building and the area coordinator that she was doing drugs and it wasn't until she tried to kill herself by overdosing and slitting her wrists that they actually did something about it. There was also an issue with me getting my mail and I had to get into contact with the Dean's office before I got my packages. In fact, the only time I was taken seriously the first time I brought an issue up was when I called in and said I wasn't coming back in the fall. I had a REALLY hard time making friends at UWGB and that's not something that's usually an issue for me, and it's not like I just holed up in my room the whole time, I went to social events (when they were offered) and hung out in the lounge and joined clubs but nobody seemed to want to be friends with me. I have a feeling that if I was a blonde or a brunette "normal girl" that was a republican that I'd be writing a rave review but as a redhead who doesn't just do what everybody else does and identifies as a democrat I have to say that I wouldn't recommend this university. As for an academic standpoint, I did like the classes and what I was learning about. Most of the professors were really nice and were happy when you came to come ask questions and didn't just give you the brushoff. There was free tutoring too but that was kind of a hit and miss…my biology tutor was great but my math tutor didn't really understand what he was trying to help me understand. That being said, I still didn't like going to UWGB and I'm not returning there next year. I think that academics is only one part of what turns out to be your college experience and while that part was really good and I learned a lot I didn't like knowing that I was paying how many thousand dollars a semister and not being taken seriously when I had legitimate problems and my classmates didn't want to associate me for reasons that I thought were left behind with the cliques of high school.
