I would have to say the UT Martin is a good school overall. If you make a visit to the school and stay overnight, you will realize that the city is pretty dull, though. I mean, don't apply and go to the school after you've realized this and didn't like it. Nothing will change about that. I mean, students do go to Union City, though. Wal-Mart seems to be the "go to place" off campus .. or McDonalds. The students are pretty friendly .. but of course you run across some assholes from time to time .. but that's anywhere. The classes are typically a small high school size and they're easy to focus in. I felt as if I was challenged by my professors, which I needed. I didn't want something that I could breeze through. I hated the dorms, because of the lack of privacy. I hate dorms in general .. but compared to University of Memphis' Richardson Towers, UTM's Ellington and ( I can't think of the other one ) .. is like a palace. lol There are two beds, two big desks that seperate the two roomies, though .. two closets .. and you share a shower with three other people. You can work through it. Thank goodness that I had clean people to share with! I got tired of Chik-fil-a after a while. There are only THREE different food places to choose from: Chik-fil-a, some chinese joint, and Sandellas. Trust me, they're just BLAH after a while. The cafeteria has pretty decent food from time to time. Pizza and salad is always an option. -_- I transferred due to family problems to a community college in Michigan, but i'm going to come back in the Spring '11 semester. I miss UT Martin. I know this is the most CLICHE advice ever but it's definitely, definitely, definitely what you make of it. If you go into the experience with a negative attitude, all that you will get in negative results. Seriously. Oh and the rapist thing was over shortly. I mean, that can be anywhere! At least they caught the man. There were signs posted everywhere and the campus police were on alert. I've never felt unsafe on campus .. even when that incident happened. So, all of the negativity .. don't listen to what you hear. Not even completely from me, you'll definitely have to experience it yourself .. because everyone's perspective will be a bit different. I can't wait until the spring!
