Statistical Analyzer:

Lakeland College is a charming school located about ten miles outside of Sheboygan, WI. The college itself is isolated from the city, and this was intentional placement because the college was originally seminary, for its location was chosen to help its students focus on the finer aspects of life and not to be distracted with the city life.

It should, however, be mentioned that since the college is located in a rural area that it can be a difficult transition for many students who are only used to the city life, so many students find themselves bored here and some actually drop out because of it; nevertheless, the college does recognize that this is an issue and is constantly organizing events around campus for student enjoyment. Such an example is laser tag being setup in one of the college's gyms. They also setup events where they will offer rides in a bus for students to go to events such as baseball games, hockey games, etc in cities such as Green Bay and Milwaukee.

I really wanted to cover the college's location first because not everyone can handle living in a rural area. As a matter of fact, my first roommate left after just one year here because he felt the college was really boring. This is in no way being said to deter anyone from coming here, but is being put out there so that you may become aware of it.

Now for the education quality here at the college I would have to say it is excellent. The last time I checked the average class sizes were 17:1 which is rather good if you ask me when compared to many public universities. This is beneficial to students because they will develop a close relationship with their professors. Many professors will be on a first name basis with you, and usually yourself with them as well. This all helps bring a sense of community and family here too. Also all of the professors that I have had, all have clearly shown enjoyment of their job, and would always instantly show a great big smile on their faces when you show up during office hours to ask a question. They love such encounters here.

Coursework can be challenging here, and you will get assigned papers that will push you in terms of challenge. The textbooks so far for the classes I have taken are some of the best I have seen in terms of information and organization. They are straight to the point, clear and concise. It is rare that you come across something in the textbooks that might appear confusing.

My major here involves spending two years here, and then a couple more years at another college, so I have to say that when the time comes for me to leave and move on to this larger public university I will surely miss the small class sizes. If there is one thing that should be taken from this review, is it that the small class sizes are HUGE in terms of educational benefit to you. You will be more confident about asking questions, and actually get the opportunity to ask such questions, and not have to worry about the hundred some other students in the room with you.

I hope this review has helped in some way. Just remember that wherever you chose to go for your schooling is to take your education seriously. It will pay off in dividends in the future if you do so. Make sure you get excellent grades your first semester so that you have a high GPA to start. If you start out poorly, it WILL take you a VERY long time to raise it up. The school also offers scholarships for those who get good grades, so don't mess up your opportunity to get such scholarships by getting poor grades. I got a 3.9 in my first semester, and my reward for such work was a $7,000 scholarship from the school for the next academic year.
