The majority of my classes were at The Spring Creek Campus. I found the students to be relatively conservative, grumpy, cold, and homogeneous. There is an atmosphere of homogeneity and collectivism which you will find at most any college. Diversity of ideas and lifestyles were not really considered as important, in some cases there was outright hostility. A history professor once threw a desk on the floor and screamed out "f**" to a student who showed up 10 minutes late to his class. There were undercurrents of institutional discrimination when I was there. I took a voice class elective with a white professor and when the class would talk too loud during the break he would scold the sole black student for talking too loud. But, the professor never scolded the entire class for talking. As a socially liberal person of color I found the students and professors to have a lot of ultra conservative attitudes that bordered on immaturity and bigotry. The professors from other countries were the worst because they had terrible English abilities. There lectures were often very ineffective. My government professor who did speak good English would rarely lecture to the class nor would she provide practical details. She was never prepared and never provided important concepts or details that would be important for further use in life. Everything with her was a group discussion. And, unfortunately group discussion and groupthink are very common in colleges, especially this college. She would facilitate class discussion all the time. I didn't learn anything because a herd of bigoted griping political minded students would dominate the class discussion. If you dared disagree with them they would jump on your case and try to harass you until you agreed with them. The professor would allow that garbage for every class period. It was a waste but at least the exams were basic and passable. And, I took her for two semesters. The class assignments in the majority of the classes e.g., philosophy, world religions, psychology, economics, English, history, geology, etc. are okay but not great. The lectures were usually of mediocre quality in most cases. Some professors were extremely disorganized and scatter-brained which I found to be unprofessional. But, there were professors who were also extremely redundant and provided me with lectures that were impractical and wasteful of my time and money. Many professors prefer to utilize multiple choice exams which do not cover lecture or book material which is deceitful and irritating. Exams often cover minutiae which is common at universities. However, that is inappropriate and unfair. Despite advertising their purported "liberalism" this college is not liberal nor does it make sincere efforts to respect diversity or diverse lifestyles that are not very conservative. The only semblance of liberalism is the obvious cantankerous but useless feminist movement which boasts itself as caustic, biased, chauvinistic, prideful, and oppressive to males (especially ethnic and racial minorities). Feminists too often do not focus their efforts on universal ethics and universal equality. Everything focuses on how women are "victims" and all men are terrible unless they are bending over backward to feed into feminism and white privilege. I once had a female music appreciation professor who would start crying in the middle of class. She would gripe and nag at the students and she would act unprofessional and uncooperative when confronted with concerns in relation to the academics. The Dean of Students was also unhelpful and useless when I had concerns. She was supposed to be helpful when I confronted her with issues but she came across as ignorant, withholding, and snide. That is pathetic. The mental health counselors who are supposed to alleviate and sooth mental health problems e.g., anxiety, depression, panic, etc. are actually instigators, provocateurs, or they are so clueless and catty that they blame you for your anxiety or depression. One of my counselors came across as an angry and snide feminist. It was apparent that she had biases and a lack of skills and professionalism. However, I kept attending counseling because it was free and I really didn't know any better until much later. She proved to be totally useless and detrimental to my well being and future. Be careful with college counselors, too often they are complete idiots who do much more damage than good. I wouldn't recommend this college unless you can avoid all of the snide morons and take the majority of your classes online. I've found that online classes are much better because you take control by learning independently versus learning in a group setting. It is easier to be indoctrinated and brainwashed in a group setting versus learning alone. Online courses are much more convenient, too. F- |
