I'm a new student at Howard Community College and I have to say my experience so far has been an interesting one. The campus is beautiful, and of course the surrounding city is beautiful as well. The cafeteria has plenty of options. Finding parking was extremely difficult my first day, but after that there were plenty of spaces. Also they have a shuttle, so its great if you want to park at other spaces off campus. The students are diverse and pretty friendly for the most part.

Since I have already have a B.A. degree, I'm currently taking a couple of science courses to head to Dental school. I've seen that some students here are sort of in the "13th" grade, often making inappropriate comments or belitting others while class is in session, when other students may ask the professor a question. From my observations, students are taught to be afraid to ask questions. In my lab for example, we did a procedure for the very first time and when I raised my hand to ask a question the lab professor screamed on the top of his lungs so much that all of the students stopped their lab work and became quiet. Out of all of my years in school, I had never experience this type of unprofessionalism and discouragement from asking questions from any professor in my life. There is a thin line between correcting students, and publicly humiliating them. My guess is that since he is of old age, he probably should be retired and really doesn't like his job. This type of situation has brought to my attention the lack of an open communication bridge between students and administration. It seems that as a student, you have to dig hard to find out who to talk to when you have these type of issues, and you don't have the ability to simply make suggestions or complaints online which leaves you left with the idea that you just have to "suck it up and deal with it". Not cool.
Other than that, great school. As far as the faculty, some need more accountability. Giving the student opportunities to do reviews on professors during and after the course would hold them accountable in appropriate conduct.
